French Model United Nations,
9-10/12/2017, Lycée Tevfik Fikret, Ankara
The Ankariot Francophone Model of the United Nations (MAFNU) stands as a prestigious French-language event hosted by Le Lycée Tevfik Fikret of Ankara, organized with the support of the French Embassy and the French Cultural Institute in Ankara. Anchored in its pedagogical mission, the conference serves as a platform to illuminate critical global concerns, engaging students in lively discussions on contemporary matters. It offers participants the unique prospect of assuming the mantle of United Nations delegates, fostering an environment of intellectual stimulation and constructive dialogue.

In the 2017 Edition, I represented Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle by holding the role of the US Permanent Representative to United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In the inaugural 2017 edition of MAFNU, I assumed the esteemed position of President of the American Delegation and Ambassador to the United Nations Security Council. My selection for these roles was a testament to the confidence bestowed upon me by my educators, culminating in the honor of delivering the conference's keynote address. Over the event's duration, our collective efforts were focused on probing the central theme, "How to reduce the use of weapons of mass destruction in the world?" Through both individual and collaborative endeavors, we delved into discussions, crafting press releases and ultimately formulating a comprehensive resolution.
It is with gratitude that I acknowledge being honored with the Best Delegate Award during the 2017 Modèle Ankariote Francophone des Nations Unies (MAFNU) Inaugural Edition, representing the United States within the UN Security Council. Furthermore, I was honored to be chosen by my school to represent the Lycée Charles de Gaulle at this distinguished inaugural edition of MAFNU by delivering the opening speech of the conference.
My First Model United Nations Experience:
Unveiling a World of Benefits
As I embarked on my journey into the world of Model United Nations (MUN) with my MAFNU experience, I was filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The prospect of engaging in diplomatic debates, negotiating resolutions, and immersing myself in global affairs was both intriguing and slightly intimidating. Little did I know that this experience would not only broaden my horizons but also equip me with valuable skills that extend far beyond the realm of international relations.
The day arrived when I walked into the bustling committee room, surrounded by students who were just as eager to dive into the complex issues at hand. As the session commenced, the atmosphere buzzed with energy as delegates introduced themselves and their countries, setting the stage for lively debates to come. It was clear that MUN was more than just a simulation; it was a platform for personal growth and learning.
One of the most striking benefits of my MAFNU experience was the improvement in my public speaking and communication skills. Delivering the opening speech and engaging in discussions in front of a diverse audience allowed me to conquer my fear of speaking in public. Constructing well-reasoned arguments on the spot and articulating them effectively became second nature as the conference progressed.

Moreover, the art of negotiation became a central part of my MUN journey. The necessity to collaborate with delegates from different backgrounds and viewpoints taught me the importance of diplomacy, compromise, and finding common ground. These skills are invaluable not only in international relations but also in various aspects of life, including professional interactions and personal relationships.
Research became my ally in this journey. The process of delving deep into a country's stance on the issue at hand and understanding its historical, cultural, and political context was enlightening. This experience nurtured my critical thinking and analytical skills, enabling me to see the multidimensional nature of global problems and their potential solutions.
MUN also provided a window into the intricate web of international affairs. From climate change to human rights, from economic development to security concerns, the issues we debated were a microcosm of the challenges the world faces today. This exposure fostered a heightened global awareness and a sense of responsibility to contribute to positive change.
"Perhaps the most profound impact of my first MUN experience was the relationships I formed. Collaborating with fellow delegates, even in the context of simulated negotiations, forged connections that transcended the conference room. The diverse perspectives and backgrounds of my peers broadened my worldview and encouraged me to embrace different viewpoints with empathy and open-mindedness.
In retrospect, my first MUN experience was a stepping stone to personal and intellectual growth. It opened my eyes to the power of constructive dialogue, the significance of global interconnectedness, and the potential for positive change through collaboration. The benefits of MUN extend beyond the walls of the committee room, shaping responsible and effective leaders who are equipped to navigate the complexities of an ever-changing world.
By contributing to meaningful exchanges on the international stage, I remain steadfast in my dedication to fostering constructive global dialogues in the pursuit of a more harmonious world."
